Isuzu Motors India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors Limited, is all set to launch its fourth model in the country – the Isuzu MU-X, on May 11.
The MU-X is a family SUV based on the same platform as other Isuzu models – V-Cross, D-Max and S-Cab -- and will replace the MU-7 in Isuzu’s line-up, taking on the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
The MU-X will get Isuzu V-Cross-like face, with two big chrome slats on the grille holding the emblem. From some of the early images leaked online, the faces of Fortuner and Endeavour might still have an edge over the MU-X’s styling.
On the inside, the MU-X will most likely get a 7-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control and other state of the art features common nowadays in SUVs of this segment. The cabin is blacked out with piano-finish dashes around the aircons and gear stick.
Under the bonnet, there’s a 3.0-litre diesel engine that makes 177 PS of top power @ 3600 rpm and 380 Nm top torque @ 1800-2800 rpm: 14PS and 20Nm more than the same diesel mill in the outgoing MU-7.
The diesel engine is connected to a five-speed automatic gearbox, besides a 4 x 4 manual transmission is expected. The beast sits on 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.
- Engine: 3.0-litre Isuzu Ddi VGS Turbo Hi-power engine

Being an SUV, the MU-X comes loaded with dual front airbags and front seat belts equipped with pre-tensioners and load limiters, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, hill start assist, electronic stability control and traction control systems.
To bring down the costs, Isuzu will manufacture the MU-X at its Sri City factory in Andhra Pradesh, which was inaugurated last year.
