Some members of Congress want the Obama administration to slow down the restructuring of General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, worried that the process could cost tens of thousands of jobs.

A group of 36 lawmakers, mostly Republican, wrote President Barack Obama to ask his administration's auto task force to slow down its work.

The lawmakers said Friday they worry about the loss of factory jobs, shuttered car dealerships and increased car production in China, along with the impact of a potential bankruptcy filing by General Motors.

Republican Rep. Steve LaTourette said the lawmakers want Obama to 'call time-out' on the task force's work. Some lawmakers were meeting with representatives of the White House on Friday.
