Mercedes-Benz is speeding up development of the upcoming C-class cabriolet ahead of an international launch next year.
Likely to make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2015, the C-class cabriolet will retain the latest C-class' large front grille and headlight clusters. It is likely to rival the BMW 3-series convertible and Audi A5 cabriolet, and will feature a folding fabric roof.
While its engine line-up is yet to be confirmed, expect it to mirror that of the C-class sedan. Current reports also suggest that a plug-in hybrid version will also join the range later, following on from the C350 sedan which arrives internationally next year. A C63 AMG cabriolet is also planned, and will sit alongside sedan, estate and coupé variants when it goes on sale before the end of 2016. That model is likely to use a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine with around 500bhp.
Leaked images doing the rounds have also given away the look of the cabriolet's interior. While keeping the same overall style and feel as the C-class sedan, the new model gets a row of secondary buttons on the centre console to control its roof functions.
