Satara-based Cooper Corporation is set to make small commercial vehicles such as mini vans and trucks. The company will launch vans in half-tonne and one-tonne ranges and trucks in half-tonne, one-tonne and 1.5-tonne categories. Cooper’s BS IV-compliant light vans and trucks will have diesel, CNG and LPG variants.
Armed with a technical collaboration with UK-based Ricardo, Cooper has already entered into the manufacturing of engines for generator sets and light vehicles at its Satara plant. “We invested R300 crore with a plan to produce 20,000 vehicles a year. The vehicles will be launched in the second half of 2012,” said Farrokh N Cooper, chairman & managing director, Cooper Corporation.
The mini vans and trucks from Cooper will be pitched against similar products from Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. “Our price will be competitive. We will also look for exports,” said Cooper.
