Field director, Bandhavgarh tiger reserve, CH Murlikrishna told HT that park staff found the body while patrolling on Sunday morning.

The cub had a GI wire around its neck, suggesting that it had been killed by poachers.

The death appeared to have been two days ago.

The dead tiger is the cub of the Aamala female and has another sibling.

The park management used a buffalo calf bait to lead the tigress and the other cub back into the park.

The field director said it could also have been a case of mistaken trapping, with the caretaker or his accomplices having set the snare to catch a herbivore or wild boar.
