Allegedly ragged by her seniors, an 18-year old bachelor of pharmacy (B Pharma) student committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her room in Bhopal on Tuesday evening.
In her three-page suicide note, Anita Sharma accused five seniors, including four girls, of harassing her in the name of ragging, according to the police.
She was allegedly being forced by her seniors to have a 'love relationship' with a college student which she refused to do.
Later, they started harassing her in the name of ragging. She was allegedly also threatened that she would be subjected to an acid attack if she did not fall in line.
According to police, the deceased, a resident of Jeevan Apartment near P&T square, Bhopal was a second year student of B Pharma at RKDF College. She hanged herself when her parents, brother and sister were not in at home.
When elder sister Sarita Sharma came back, she found her room locked from inside. When Anita did not open the door even after repeated knocks, she called neighbours. Later, they broke open the door and found Anita hanging from the ceiling.
In the suicide note she has written, "Five seniors including, four girls and a boy, have been harassing me since I joined the college in 2012. I was thinking that they would stop this when I get into the second year. But, they continued to harass me in the second year too. Now, I have been fed up with all these things, I am going from this world. God will surely punish them."
Elder sister of deceased, Sarita Sharma said Anita had complained to the principal of the college against her seniors few days ago.
Kamla Nagar police station in charge Manish Raj Bhadauria said, "A suicide note has been recovered from the spot and investigation is on. The deceased has named the five students of the college who harassed her. We will soon arrest all those five students."
