“We can say the campaign was actually launched in 2006 in Guwahati by Parthiv Dhar on Orkut (now-defunct social networking site). The group became non-functional for two-three years until this Sunday we revived it on Facebook,” says Anirban Dutta, one of the administrators of the group.

“It was pleasure to see that within less than 24 hours, the campaign started garnering support from across the world. We received more than 12,000 signed members,” says Dutta.

Actor-singer-composer Kishore Kumar was born in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. He graduated from Christian College, Indore.

Dutta says, “The whole online campaign is being supported by Kishore Kumar’s son Amit.”

The campaign has been backed by Babul Supriyo, who is now the minister of state for heavy industries and public enterprises.

The Facebook group BRFKK has active members across the world. One of the initiators of the campaign, Suresh Kumar, says, “The more registrations we receive online, the more signatures on the petition that we will be handing over to the culture ministry.”

“We have 20,000 members in our online Amit Kumar fans forum, whom we are in process of adding for this campaign and we are targeting to cover 50,000 members within one month,” says Suresh, who lives in Britain.

Parthiv Dhar, a fan, says: “As on date a Google search result on Kishore Kumar yields more than 15 lakh results and one of the largest ever communities in Facebook is dedicated to him. The genius has never received any recognition from the government for his tremendous contribution and it is time to correct the history.”

Sunil Shukraware of Madhya Pradesh Samrat Musical Group said, “I have been organising ‘Kishore Kumar Night’ for the past 15 years in Bhopal. He was one legend, who is still giving bread to so many. There are around 50 famous ‘Kishore Kumar’ artists in Bhopal, who sing in orchestras and live shows to earn their livelihood.”
