Aditi Rao Hydari: It was my childhood dream to work with Mani Ratnam
Actor Aditi Rao Hydari talks about working with filmmaker Mani Ratnam and why language can never be a hurdle in her love for good stories.
Actor Aditi Rao Hydari got a lot of appreciation for her Tamil film Kaatru Veliyidai, helmed by Mani Ratnam. The actor, who has been part of Bollywood films such as, Yeh Saali Zindagi (2009), London, Paris, New York (2012) and Wazir (2016), says that she doesn’t differentiate between Hindi and regional films.
“I am one of those girls who looks at the industry as the Indian film industry, not as Bollywood or regional. We tell stories and create emotions with them. No story has any geographical and language boundaries. As an actor, what drives me is a director because he/she is the one who creates these beautiful stories,” says Aditi.
Elaborating on the director’s vision, which is most important to her, she says,“It doesn’t matter if the director is telling that story in Tamil, in Hindi or Spanish, if he/she is good, I want to work with that person because he/she will create a story, which will live far beyond my time. He/she will create a character, which people will take back in their hearts and keep going back to. I really look at it like that,” says the actor, who was recently awarded at the Women Economic Forum.
Talking about working with Mani Ratnam, she says, The problem in working in a regional film is the difficulty to learn the language. But, my childhood dream of working with Mani sir is far greater than the hurdle of learning the language. So, I decided that I am going to learn it.”
