Bollywood actors never cease to take their fans by surprise, and at times, they even take their co-stars for a ride. On April Fool’s Day, here are some Bollywood actors, who are quite popular in the film fraternity for their tomfoolery.

From sending marriage proposals from their co-actors’ phones to fooling them into eating gajar ka halwa made with red chili paste, here’s what these actors have done to pull the best of pranks while shooting on the sets and elsewhere. A word of statutory warning: Try these at your own risk!

The one who led his wife into men’s restroom

Actor Abhishek Bachchan is known to be a total prankster on the sets of his films. He sent out mischievous tweets from filmmaker Farah Khan’s phone during the shoot of Happy New Year (2014). He also got her a cake with the film’s poster on it but had the actors’ faces swapped with Farah’s face. Once, during the shoot of Shararat (2002), Abhishek made the crew drink bhaang-laced milk, without disclosing his mischievous intent. In another instance, after the music launch of his film Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (2010), junior Bachchan led his wife, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, into a room of a hotel. It was only later that she realised he had led her into the men’s washroom. His co-actors, including Sonam Kapoor and father Amitabh Bachchan have spoken about this naughty streak of his on different occasions.

Actor Akshay Kumar has a naughty side, which often creates embarrassing scenarios for his co-stars. And recently, while filming Jolly LLB 2, actor Huma Qureshi fell prey to Akshay’s prank, as he stole her phone and sent marriage proposals to many Bollywood actors. Huma had said she was mortified and had to text those people again to explain her situation. This is not the first time that Akshay has used people’s phones to get them into a sticky spot. On the sets of Brothers (2015), he took co-actor Sidharth Malhotra’s phone to send ‘I Love You messages’ to random people. Actor Lisa Haydon while shooting for Housefull 3 (2016) also fell prey to his pranks.

Mr Perfectionist and his coffee pranks

Aamir Khan’s wife, Kiran Rao, calls him an “incorrigible prankster”. (Hindustan Times)

The common link between actors Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Fatima Sana Shaikh and cricketer Sourav Ganguly is that they have all been fooled by Aamir Khan. In his wife Kiran Rao’s words, he is an “incorrigible prankster”. Actor Raveena Tandon has revealed how, on the sets of Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Aamir threw a cup towards her, which had nothing in it and she shrieked thinking it was full of hot tea. It seems this prank is a favourite of Mr Perfectionist, who repeated it with his Dangal co-acto , Fatima Sana Shaikh, who played his daughter. While playing a board game on the sets, he came with a cup of coffee and sat behind her, claiming that the coffee was hot (when in fact, the cup was empty). He then pretended to spill it on her and she screamed thinking he had burnt her head!

While shooting for Singham Returns (2014), Ajay Devgn and filmmaker Rohit Shetty were successful in leading the cast and crew to believe that the location they were shooting at, was haunted. They even made a spot boy roam around in a white gown to scare them. Actor Arjan Bajwa, who worked with Devgn in Son of Sardaar (2012), was once offered gajar ka halwa made with red chili paste! He also pulled a prank on a performer in a popular comedy show by pouring water down his pants. Actor Arjan Bajwa, who worked with Devgn in Son of Sardaar (2012), was once offered gajar ka halwa by the latter. Little did he know that it was actually red chili paste, and had a tough time after eating it.

The one who yelled at a writer

Actor Suniel Shetty is quite a prankster and his pranks are known to leave the cast and crew in splits. During the shooting of his film Desi Kattey (2014), he yelled at a writer, demanding better lines and improvements in the script. The team, including the director and producer were taken aback, not to mention the petrified writer. Later, he hugged the writer and revealed that it was a prank. Another time, while shooting Hulchul (2004), he hid co-actor Arshad Warsi’s phone, which would later magically appear when the latter was to leave the set. It was only later that he realised that Anna was behind this prank.

The one who made funny faces to distract co-actors

Vidya Balan used to hide filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh’s mobile, and only gave it to him when he was about to call for a new handset. (Yogen Shah)

Vidya Balan is known for her pranks, so much so that when she actually broke down into tears on the sets of Kahaani 2 (2017), the crew members thought it to be another one of her pranks. On the sets of TE3N (2016), she would make funny faces to distract co-actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, leading him to goof-up the scenes. Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh, while filming Kahaani (2012), also became a victim of one of her pranks. She used to hide his mobile, and when the poor chap was about call for a new handset, she would give it back to him. While filming The Dirty Picture (2011), Vidya Balan pretended to be unwell and asked a female assistant director (AD) to act out a bedroom scene with her co-actor Emraan Hashmi. The AD was mortified at the prospect and Vidya kept pulling her leg afterwards as well.
