Answering fans, using the Ask Me A Question feature, actor Ilean D’ Cruz took on a body shamer who asked how she dealt with her ‘awkward body’.

Body-shaming is a phenomenon that most celebs, particularly women, have to face all the time. Recall how Sonakshi Sinha was trolled, with one actually saying: “Chup kar moti”.

Now, actor Ileana D’Cruz had to face (and fend off) questions about her body. It happened when the actor utilised the newly added feature on Instagram called “Ask Me A Question”. While many questions were fairly straight forward and decent, one of them stood out.

Ileana D’Cruz was honest with her answers.

An instagrammer questioned Ileana on her supposedly “awkward body type”. The question went: Did you face any flak for an awkward body type?” Her answer was, of course, as honest as it could get. She replied saying: “Firstly, I don’t have an ‘awkward’ body type. Nobody does. Secondly, yes I have been criticised for my body type. But I am trying to learn to love myself for who I am and not try to conform to someone else’s ideals.”

Body shaming, of course, is not new. Deepika Padukone, the prima donna of Bollywood, in 2017 posted a picture of herself in a black dress and was trolled for being “too skinny” and “suffering from malnutrition”. The actor, of course, chose to maintain a dignified silence.

Last year, Vidya Balan too had to face embarrassing questions on weight loss. Speaking to the press, she was asked if she would continue to do women-centric films or think about losing some weight, in order to do more glamorous roles. A visibly shocked Vidya answered right back, stating that she was getting interesting roles and that it would be nice if they could change their mindset.

Actor Parineeti Chopra has had to face body shamers a lot many times. However, despite the experience being demoralising, she chose to get herself in shape around 2016, a move for which she was criticised for succumbing to Bollywood pressures of being slim.

Defending her choice, she had written then, “All my life, I have struggled with how I look, how I feel, and how people looked at me. I was constantly made fun of, but the person I was, I generously laughed with them. Today, many people ask me what triggered the weight loss, did I give in to the “bollywood pressure”? To that I say - thank God I became an actor and had that pressure! I am able to achieve what I couldn’t achieve otherwise. I feel more confident, I feel at peace, and I feel proud!”
