Is this game over for Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale?

The latest box office collection of Dilwale hints that it may face difficulty in breaking even at the ticket window.

Trust the Indian audience to behave unpredictably and constantly keep filmmakers on their toes to find a winning formula. Interestingly, there is no recipe for a sure-shot hit. Even filmmakers like Rohit Shetty, who otherwise have a great success rate, fail to deliver a hit film every time. The latest box office collection of Dilwale hints that it may face difficulty in breaking even at the ticket window. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film’s business.

Adarsh also tweeted about the figures of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani.

On one hand, Bajirao Mastani is gaining momentum. The film’s business remained intact even on day 4th of its release. Its Sunday business showed a considerable jump. On the other, Dilwale lacked the pace it showed on day one. Despite being released on a thousand more screens than Bajirao Mastani, Dilwale’s Sunday increase of business is almost similar to the Ranveer-Deepika starrer. So, this might be a case of Dilwale’s loss to Bajirao Mastani.

Dilwale suffered on two fronts. First, its business received a jolt due to political protests across India, especially at big centers. Second, it didn’t get positive reviews. As a result, it did well in the first week, but couldn’t sustain the same force on Monday, its first big test.

Also, the traditional Bollywood audience is slowly waking up to good content. Now, super-starrers open well, but the lack of positivity around them pulls business down. This happened with Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which opened with a thunderous collection of Rs 40.35 crore, but didn’t surpass Bajrangi Bhaijaan which had the opening day collection of only Rs 27.25 cr.

Similarly, Akshay Kumar’s Singh Is Bling and Brothers opened with Rs 20.67 cr and Rs 15.20 cr figures respectively, but they both fizzled out in the long run.

It’s still very early to term Dilwale a flop, but the signs are not looking good for Rohit Shetty and team.
