Recently, Tamil activist outfits Naam Thamizhar and Students Federation For Freedom Of Tamil Eelam reportedly sought a ban on Madras Cafe for allegedly portraying Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) members as terrorists in the Hindi trailer of the film. However, despite the protests, actor John Abraham is set to launch the trailer of the Tamil version in Chennai.
“John will travel to the city to release theatrical trailer as we want to reach out to a wider audience. This makes us very happy as the milieu of the film is set there,” says the film’s director, Shoojit Sircar.
The director also advises the protesting organisations to watch the film first before raising objections. “I always advice not to speculate unless you see the film. As a conscious citizen, I know how sensitive the issue is. When they see the film, they will know that it is unbiased. But, if somebody wants to speculate for political advantage, I cannot stop them,” adds Shoojit.
Ask him if the makers plan to show the film to the protestors and he says, “We have not taken a decision on that as yet. We have already shown our film to the Censor Board and they have given us a clearance.”
