Lipstick Under My Burkha stays strong at box office, Munna Michael disappoints

The weekend box office report for Bollywood is out and Lipstick Under My Burkha is the clear winner with a collection of Rs 8.7 crore (released in 400 screens). Tiger Shroff’s Munna Michael made a dismal collection of Rs 21.67 crore (released in 3000 screens).

Made at an estimated budget of Rs 6 crore and released in almost five times lesser number of screens (400), Lipstick Under My Burkha is the clear winner this weekend.

Alankrita Srivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha made an impressive collection at the ticket windows over the weekend, having earned Rs 5.8 crore in three days at the box office. Tiger Shroff-starrer Munna Michael made an opening weekend collection of Rs 8.7 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the box office figures Monday afternoon. He wrote, “#MunnaMichael Fri 6.65 cr, Sat 6.32 cr, Sun 8.70 cr. Total: ₹ 21.67 cr [3000 screens]. India biz. #LipstickUnderMyBurkha Fri 1.22 cr, Sat 2.17 cr, Sun 2.41 cr. Total: ₹ 5.80 cr [400 screens]. India biz.”

Made at an estimated budget of Rs 6 crore and released in almost five times lesser number of screens (400), Lipstick is clearly the winner this weekend. On the other hand, Munna Michael had a budget of Rs 45 crore and was released across 3000 screens.

Munna Michael is the story of a street dancer and a don who wants to learn dancing and win a competition. It featured Nidhi Agerwal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tiger Shroff in lead roles. Lipstick Under My Burkha traces the lives and desires of four women fighting their own set of demons in a patriarchal set-up. The movie featured Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra, Konkona Sen Sharma and Plabita Borthakur.
