Why did Kapoors skip launch of Besharam trailer?

Ranbir Kapoor and his parents - Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh - were missing from trailer launch of Besharam, apparently to avoid questions about Ranbir and Katrina Kaif’s paparazzi pictures. Interestingly, the three actors play main roles in Besharam.

Ranbir Kapoor is a busy man. Yet, it came as a surprise when he skipped the first trailer launch (on Tuesday, July 30) of his upcoming film, Besharam. Ranbir’s parents, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor (who also star in Abhinav Singh Kashyap’s film), were missing from the event as well.

Abhinav says Ranbir could not make it since it was “not a pre-planned launch” (the actor is in Sri Lanka shooting for Bombay Velvet). However, the rumour is that the Kapoors are trying to avoid the media.

“How else would you explain their absence? It’s understandable since Ranbir is in Sri Lanka, but Rishi sir and Neetuji could have made it,” says an industry insider. “They knew that the media would grill them about Ranbir’s candid pictures with Katrina (Kaif).”

A recent report even suggested that Rishi and Neetu were upset about their son’s personal life being openly discussed, especially with their latest pictures surfacing.

For the uninitiated, a magazine published photographs of Ranbir and his alleged-girlfriend Katrina holidaying in Spain. The pictures show Katrina in a white-and-red bikini, and Ranbir Kapoor in a pair of surfer shorts.

We tried to get in touch with Rishi and Ranbir (through calls and text messages), but they remained unavailable for comments.

However, the film’s spokesperson says, “Ranbir is shooting in Sri Lanka and wasn’t supposed to attend. That’s why it was decided that instead of the cast, director Abhinav Kashyap and producer Sanjeev Lamba would launch the promo. There wasn’t any consideration of media awkwardness.”
