Written by a 19-year-old novelist, Dead Underground is an engaging spy thriller. As a debutant, the attempt is worth applauding. The novel is set in 2026, where the world is suffering from an energy crisis, and a global level conspiracy. The story revolves around a spy with the alias Alec Mercer, who is on an assignment to protect the CERN scientist Elenore Basset, both of whom are hunted by corporates and intelligence agencies. In their fight for survival, they get to know some hard truths about their lives. Amid all this, the reader gets to understand global politics, military intelligence and how innovations get corrupted due to vested interests.
