The technological advancements we are witnessing on a daily basis are rampant. The world we live in has evolved exponentially in the last fifteen years or so. This evolution can be witnessed in the way we communicate, the inflow of new electronic devices, internet availability becoming a norm, or even the inception of smart technology - the innovations are endless. Saying that every industry in the world has benefitted from these innovations would not be an understatement.

Till only a few years ago, the education industry had remained quite stagnant in terms of teaching methods and styles. However, recently there have been noticeable developments in terms of integrating technology in the education system. This notion is bound to grow even further now in the near future. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant changes in the way teachers and students are going about their business, and it is about time the players in the sphere of education embrace these changes. These innovations include -

Online Classes

One of the essential elements of learning in the digital age is remote classes. There are multiple platforms which have become eminent amidst the crisis caused by the pandemic such as Zoom and Blackboard. These platforms are ideal for hosting conference video calls for large groups and offer convenience to both the students and the faculty. Similarly, there are educational platforms such as Coursera, where in collaboration with schools and colleges, students can learn additional topics in order to upskill themselves.

Mobile Applications

It is no surprise to see that most organizations and entities are stamping their presence in the digital world through mobile applications. Schools/universities can launch their own mobile applications which will encourage quick and smooth communication and understanding between students/parents and the institute. A mobile application is a perfect platform to add short viewable content in the forms of videos, live sessions, and interviews. It can also be used to provide students./parents with quick updates and latest happenings at the institute. An application needn’t be restricted only to enrolled students. Content regarding entrance exam tips and admission cycle updates can also be regularly added on a mobile application for aspiring students.

Online Application Processes

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has clashed with the commencement of the admission process for the upcoming academic year. Instead of pausing operations - which would lead to chaos - most institutes have been forced to switch to a digital application procedure. An online entrance examination process would save a lot of time and resources on both the applicant and the institute’s side.

The applications of digital innovations are several. Now is the time schools and universities must use to adapt, improvise, and overcome the unique challenges faced. For example, Pearl Academy - an established institute offering education in design, fashion, business, and media studies, has adopted several measures to offer seamless services to both current and prospective students. Pearl Academy is now QS I.Gauge E-Lead certified for E-Learning excellence for academic digitization with a perfect score of 150/150. It is the only Indian Design institute with this distinction For the current students, it is business as usual with 1300+ weekly online classes held by Pearl Faculty, and even opportunities to expand their learnings with online courses in collaboration with Coursera and Business of Fashion. The institute is all set to hold their admission test on 18th July.
