Sachin Mathur, after pursuing his post-graduation in management, had a choice to continue with his family business. He, however, went on to work for corporates like Zee Network, CNBC TV 18, Reliance, and Tata for 13 years.
He later took up the responsibility of Lachoo Memorial College of Science & Technology. It is a 56-year-old institute located in Jodhpur, and was established by Sachin’s grandfather and the freedom fighter Mathura Das Mathur. The latter was also a Cabinet Minister in Rajasthan for several years.
Sachin’s motivation to give back to the society is nonpareil. When he was appointed as the Vice President of the All India Professional Congress for the state of Rajasthan, Sachin used the forum to organize blood donation camps and health camps in slums. He also roped in Rajendra Prasad, the ‘Waterman of India’, to spread awareness about the importance of water conservation in Rajasthan.
Realizing that students in the region have to often go to the national capital or down south for their management courses, Mathur started commerce and management courses in his college. The move has benefitted many Marwari families, who are often hesitant to send their girls to other cities for higher studies.
Under Sachin’s leadership, Lachoo College has been recognized as a ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ by the UGC and accredited with an ‘A’ grade. The Rajasthan government has also declared it as a ‘Model College’ in the state.
Further, the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, has established a Bioinformatics Center in the college to facilitate research into the flora and fauna of the desert region. It has also selected the college under its ‘Star College Scheme’.
Sachin is indeed a role model for India’s youth.
