TMU Hospital's role in combating Coronavirus is commendable
CM Yogi’s appreciation motivated TMU staff to work even harder in fighting COVID-19
The Covid-19 crisis has created the largest disruption in the education system globally. There has been a paradigm shift in the way education is being imparted. While some institutes struggled to switch to the online model during the past year, Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), Moradabad, UP pioneered in making a seamless transition to the virtual teaching model with a 100% efficiency proving that nothing can deter their proactive approach in fighting all odds.

TMU Medical College and Hospital came into existence in 2008, an outcome of the immaculate determination of its founder Chancellor Suresh Jain, and his unwavering belief in education and healthcare. Various colleges and departments kept adding to its portfolio but the inception of its Medical College in 2008 stood out. Spread over 145 acres of land, the TMU campus houses spacious hostels, furnished faculty apartments, canteens, mess, security cells with 24x7 CCTV surveillance, lecture theatres, gymnasium, indoor sports stadium, an on-campus multi super-specialty hospital, lush green playfields, and lawns. All the multi-disciplinary programmes of study offered by the university are job-oriented and have established benchmarks in their fields. At present more than 14,000 students from across the country are pursuing higher education (UG, PG, and Ph.D courses) in the 150 programmes of study being offered at the university.
TMU Medical College and Research Centre and The TMU Hospital were envisioned by Chancellor Suresh Jain, a philanthropist and educationist par excellence. The hospital renders best-in-class medical services at a reasonable cost and is the apex health institution providing tertiary care to the entire population of Moradabad and adjoining districts besides imparting clinical training to the students. The hospital focuses on providing free medical assistance or charges a nominal fee from the underprivileged section of society. This 1008 bed super speciality hospital is equipped with sophisticated and modern equipment, providing major diagnostic tests at affordable prices.
TMU’s impeccable efforts against COVID-19
Throughout this challenging time, TMU worked tirelessly with the government and continued with its humanitarian work. The TMU hospital was converted into an exclusive COVID-19 hospital as per the Government of Uttar Pradesh directive to treat COVID-infected patients from 5 districts - Moradabad, Rampur, Bijnor, Amroha, and Sambhal. The hospital was accorded Level-3 status for treating patients with maximum comorbidities. The on-duty team of doctors, dental doctors, paramedical staff, nurses, pharmacists, and the ancillary staff derived motivation from Mr. Suresh Jain who oversaw the successful conversion of the hospital to a COVID-19 facility. TMU’s efforts to defeat the deadly virus were duly recognised by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the digital inauguration (August 2020) of the installation of BSL-2 Molecular Laboratory having RT-PCR testing (Open System) for COVID-19 at the TMU Hospital. A gold standard for all viral infection tests, it can increase testing capacity substantially. The lab is NABL and ICMR approved and run by 7 microbiologists. One of the first 3 private medical colleges in UP to get this facility, TMU performed aggressive testing to keep the cases in control. While Plasma Therapy proved fruitful in fighting Corona, TMU Chancellor urged people to Donate Plasma including ex-Covid-19 survivors to help treat more patients.
“TMU hospital has treated the highest number of coronavirus-infected patients as compared to any other private hospital in the state of Uttar Pradesh. As per government directive, we converted to TMU COVID-19 hospital at the end of Mar’2020 with 200 beds and 10 ICU beds. In no time, we saw an incremental rise in bed count with 720 beds and 60 ICU beds. With the successful installation of RT-PCR laboratory we have conducted an impressive 7146 tests and treated over 4072 patients till date.” says Mr. Manish Jain, Group Vice Chairman, TMU. “Currently, the vaccination drive is on with full vigor to secure the population and increase herd immunity” he adds.
Teerthanker Mahaveer University and Hospital have been garnering attention due to the speciality services they have provided to combat the ongoing crisis. As an educational hub that nurtures medical professionals of multiple disciplines ranging from MBBS & MD/MS programmes to Dental, Nursing, Paramedical, and Pharmacy, TMU’s team of medical professionals helped the government and people fight COVID-19 responsibly.
TMU invites all the aspirants to avail the unique opportunity of excellent career formation with the right value system. The University is progressive and a pioneer in many fields.
