All that glitters: Jewellery trends to watch out for this season
From diamond chokers to gemstone pendants to polki necklaces—a look at jewellery trends that are making waves on the runway.
The FDCI India Couture Week—held at the Taj Palace in New Delhi last month—took the fashion industry by storm with outfits that ranged from the modern to the traditional. If it was about rich, dreamy ensembles inspired by a Parisian queen, it was also about lightweight fabrics crafted for the millennial bride.
Presented by Hindustan Times and Sunil Sethi Design Alliance, India Couture Week is one of the most anticipated fashion extravaganzas in the country. Among the leading designers who showcased at the event this year were Amit Aggarwal, Rohit Bal, Anju Modi, Reynu Taandon, Tarun Tahiliani, Shyamal and Bhumika, Shane and Falguni Peacock, Rahul Mishra, Pallavi Jaikishan, and Suneet Varma.
On the opening day, Anju Modi emerged as the show-stealer with her Victorian era-inspired collection. Adding oomph to her ensembles were ornaments created by RK Jewellers South Extension II. Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, who walked the ramp for Modi, looked every inch royal in a minimalistic diamond necklace by the premium jewellery brand. Indeed, all of the jewellery displayed at the show was designed in line with the Victorian era.
According to Rohan Sharma, Managing Director, RK Jewellers South Extension II, craftsmen were flown in from West Bengal to lend the right level of finesse to the adornments. Through use of fancy cut white diamonds and gemstones like emeralds and rubies, the jewellery brand ensured that the antique appeal of the show was kept intact.
Mr. Sharma also listed some of the jewellery styles that are making waves this season. Read on to know more.
•Diamond chokers: Have a party to go to, but not impressed with your outfit? Opt for a diamond choker and watch how it instantly elevates your look! A classic ‘90s trend that is once again in the spotlight, chokers are a must-have in every fashionista’s wardrobe.
•Gemstone-studded jewellery: Gemstones are jewellery staples that will never go out of fashion. Whether you’re stepping out for a drink with your friends or have a work dinner to attend, gemstone bracelets and pendants are your preferred accessories. And, if you are looking to stock up on lightweight pieces in contemporary designs, go for something in rose gold diamond, which is popular among young, urban women.
•Uncut polki with pastel meena: Uncut diamond or ‘polki’ adornments score high on elegance, and have become a huge favourite among millennial brides. With a blend of ethnic and modern designs, this collection manages to add a royal touch to all wedding ensembles.
Hopefully, now you have all the inspiration you need to up your style game. So, which of these are you adding to your collection?
