Have you ever had to postpone a holiday because it wasn’t the best time to visit your dream destination? Well, not when it comes to Switzerland. This evergreen tourist spot is ready for all kinds of travellers throughout the year with a bagful of delightful surprises for everyone.
Take the case of Bollywood actor and official Switzerland Tourism ambassador Ranveer Singh, who has explored the country across seasons, and given us some serious travel goals in the process.
During his summer trip, he went skydiving and paragliding in Interlaken, travelled through Lucerne and Mount Pilatus, and wake-boarded on Lake Zurich. While in St. Moritz in winter, he even dared to shoot down the ice canal of the Olympic bob run. With speeds that go up to 135km/h, the bob run is not for the faint hearted. Similarly, if you are looking for your first ski experience, head to Mount Titlis, which provides tourists with basic equipment and plenty of adventures.
Skiing and bob running sound too daunting? The beauty of Switzerland lies in the fact that not all winter activities require such precise skills. Snow-tubing, snow-biking, and tobogganing are fun sports that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
On his latest trip, Ranveer explored the stunning Lake Geneva region, a hidden gem of Switzerland. With its mild climate, stunning vistas, excellent restaurants and vineyards, the area is perfect for a relaxing holiday. The cities of Lausanne and Montreux are both nestled on the shores of Lake Geneva. Must-see attractions include the 13th century Chillon Castle, the Olympic Museum, and Chaplin’s World, the comic legends’ former home-turned-museum. The highlight of this visit however, is likely to be the sun-kissed Lavaux vineyards, a UNESCO heritage site. If you visit Lavaux in autumn you can experience the harvest of the grapes firsthand. To enjoy some of the best views of the vineyards board one of the historic paddle steam boats and cruise along the shores of Lake Geneva.
There’s no denying that Ranveer’s Swiss holiday videos really make us want to pack our bags right away. And it’s no wonder either that the dashing and well-travelled Bollywood brigade have Switzerland on their bucket list.
Recently, Hrithik Roshan and his sons bonded over their action-packed adventure on Glacier 3000, proving once again that Switzerland is the perfect family destination.
Actors Kriti Sanon and Sushant Singh Rajput also spent a fun winter holiday with their friends in the picture-perfect, car free village of Zermatt, at the foot of the world’s most iconic mountain, the Matterhorn.
The charming resort turns into a happening place during ski season, with visitors from all over the world enjoying the outdoors during the day and the après-ski bars and clubs at night.
Frequent Switzerland traveller Shah Rukh Khan was also seen enjoying the scenic beauty of the snow-covered Alps during his last visit to Davos. Best known for hosting the World Economic Forum, Davos is the ideal destination for visitors who look for outdoor activities. It is also a great place for family holidays with plenty of snow in winter.
And, finally, who doesn’t know of the lavish Gstaad Palace visited annually by our very own Bollywood royalty, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan? It is renowned for its refined elegance, luxury accommodation, and personalised serviced. Located on a hillside, the Gstaad Palace overlooks the scenic region and picturesque village with its classic wooden chalets.
Snow-capped mountains, vineyards clinging to hillsides, unique world-class hotels, ancient castles and cathedrals, creative culinary experiences, snowy adventures and the sound of cowbells tinkling in the meadows, all combine to make Switzerland a truly amazing destination. We’re all set to go; what about you?
