The battle is hotting up in the e-commerce space, whether it’s the war of words or the war over new products.

After Flipkart said that Amazon was showing high festival-season sales by selling items like hing, churan and memberships, and Amazon hit back saying it was the largest retailer of online fashion products (clothes, shoes, and accessories), the focus is on the goods sold.

Amazon has brought four million products currently available in the US on its India platform, and that too at the same price. The products are in 12 categories, including clothes, watches, electronics and stationary.

If you are in the US or the UK, Black Friday and Thanksgiving are the time to log onto Amazon for steep discounts, very similar to Diwali sales. “We want Indian customers to celebrate Black Friday and Christmas in India, and offer the same prices as they are in the US,” said Amit Agarwal, country manager, Amazon India. ”There are 100s of millions of products that are on Amazon and we would like to bring them to India.”

With the launch of the Global Store on Thursday, Amazon’s total products on its India platform currently stands at 85 million. The delivery time is two to four days, and the products are eligible for returns. The products, however, are not available on cash-on-delivery, at least for the time being. “But our objective is to provide as much of a local experience as possible,” said Agarwal.

The Global Store comes less than a week after the Great Diwali Sale. Amazon has already sold 15 million units as part of its festival-season sale. Flipkart has sold 15.5 million.

The Global Store will allow Amazon customer from nearly 20,000 pin codes, especially those in small towns and villages, to buy international brands.

Amazon, however, is not the first company to open up an international store for Indian shoppers. EBay has Global Easy Buy (with over 28 million products listed from 50,000 sellers), while Paytm connects you to AliExpress’ store.

Commenting on Amazon’s move, Samardeep Subandh, marketing head at Flipkart said: “We have done a pilot to get international brands, but that remains a niche. We believe that we can add a lot of value by making products affordable for our buyers here.”

The goods listed on the Global Store are being sold by Amazon Export Sales LLC. Buyers can also choose between different delivery options — the longer the delivery time, the lesser the buyer will have to pay. It has tied up with DHL, Aramax and India Postal Services (international) for the delivery of the products.

Apart from India, the Global Store is available in Mexico and China, but the India store will have a lot more. “We will not only add more products, we will also add products from more countries such as the UK and Germany,” said Agarwal.
