'No seamless roaming for CDMA phones'

Government has no proposal at present to allow seamless roaming for CDMA phones, Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

Government has no proposal at present to allow seamless roaming for Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) phones, Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

Also, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has not issued any directive as yet on whether roaming facility on limited mobility circuits is barred, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Sumitra Mahajan said in a written reply.

To a query on whether government is planning to allow seamless roaming for CDMA phones, she said: "no such proposal is under consideration at present".

Bharti: Some private cellular operators including the Bharti group with brand name Airtel have recently revised their pre-paid tariff schemes which includes a hike in processing fee and reduction in call charges.
