The dominance of Haryana wrestlers is writ large at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (Scotland). Vinesh Phogat from Bhiwani district and Amit Kumar Dahiya from Sonepat district have won gold medals in their respective weight categories.

Vinesh, a cousin of celebrated women wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat, hails from Bilali village of Bhiwani district. Amit Kumar Dahiya, a Jat boy, hails from Nahari village of Sonepat district. He comes from a modest family as his father Narender Dahiya is a small time farmer.
Expressing happiness, coach and uncle of Vinesh, Mahavir Phogat, told mediapersons that she had made them proud by proving her mettle at an international event. He said that when he started training family girls (Geeta, Babita and Vinesh) for professional wrestling in village 'akhara', family had to face criticism for breaking the stereotypes but their efforts paid off as the girls did well in the sport.
He hoped that Babita, Vinesh's cousin, would also clinch gold medal in her weight category. Geeta could not participate in CWG event owing to injury.
Parents of Amit, the youngest wrestler to represent country in the 2012 London Olympics, were celebrating the fete of their son. Narender, father of Amit, said, "Despite having scarce resources, we let Amit to make his career in wrestling after seeing his determination."
Earlier, Yogeshwar Dutt of Bainswal village of Sonepat district had brought the state in the limelight by clinching a bronze medal in 2012 London Olympics.
