Punjab appoints supervisors to evaluate ITIs

The Punjab technical education department on Tuesday appointed special supervisors for the evaluation and upgradation of training standards in all private and government industrial training institutes (ITIs) of the state.

Stating this here, Anil Joshi, technical education and industrial training minister, said the department had appointed 12 officers for the supervision of government ITIs and 30 field officers for private ones.

He added that it had been noticed that some affiliated institutions had shifted their campus. These institutions have been issuing certificates to students who have not attended classes. The certificates are being issued on the basis of proxy attendance. Joshi said it had also been noticed that due to the paucity of staff in these institutions, students faced difficulty in pursuing their courses.

He said the department had now decided to monitor and evaluate the working of these institutions. Strict instructions have been issued to all institutions to improve their academic standards. He said any institution found flouting norms would be severely death with.
