In a proud moment, four universities of the region have won the top four positions. This was announced after a meeting at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) headquarters in New Delhi on Friday afternoon.

Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, won the second spot this time with 34,000 points followed by Kurukshetra University with 18,300 points and Panjab University, Chandigarh, with 13,800 points.

Punjabi University won the prestigious award for being the best varsity in sports in 2014-15, the eighth time since the trophy was instituted in 1956-57.

Four years ago, Punjabi University started its grand run by ending the winning streak of Guru Nanak Dev University, which has won the honour a record 22 times.

Last year, the President gave away the trophy at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on August 29, which is National Sports Day.
