Jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh’s mother, Balwinder Kaur, was stopped by authorities at Delhi airport from travelling to Canada on Friday.

Balwinder said she was to board a flight to Canada to meet her daughter, but the authorities asked her to go back as she is not allowed to travel.

In a statement, Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) strongly condemned the alleged “unjust and undemocratic” action.

“Balwinder Kaur faces no criminal charges, legal restrictions, or travel prohibitions. Despite this, she was prevented from boarding her flight, raising serious questions about human rights and humanitarian considerations,” the party spokesperson said in a statement.

He added this was “not a routine travel or immigration issue,” but a direct interference in sensitive family matters. “Stopping a grandmother from meeting her newborn grandchild reflects the government’s disregard for legal process and human compassion,” the statement added.
