Ludhiana: 195-acre pachayati land cleared of illegal possession in Sidhwan Bet area
Punjab rural development and panchayats minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Thursday got around 195-acre panchayati land freed of illegal possession at Talwandi Nauabad, Walipur Khurd and Walipur Kalan villages in Sidhwan Bet area.
He was accompanied by MLAs Sarvjit Kaur Manuke and Hardeep Singh Mundian; senior AAP leaders Amandeep Singh Mohie and Dr KNS Kang; ADC (rural development) Amit Kumar Panchal and DDPO Sanjeev Kumar.
The minister said that around 86 acres of land was freed at Talwandi Nauabad village, 65 acres at Walipur Khurd and 43 acres at Walipur Kalan.
Dhaliwal appreciated the efforts of the district administration and said that 424 acres of government land has been freed from illegal occupation in the district till date.
He added that around 2,750 acres of land has been freed across the state, which will go up to around 3,000 acres by the end of this month and 5,000 acres by June.
Security forces arrested four militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore and Pampore on Thursday. Two militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba were arrested in north Kashmir's Sopore . The terrorists – Adnan Ashiq War of Sopore and Zubair Ahmad Sofi of Baramulla – were intercepted at a checkpoint at Chinar Crossing after they exhibited suspicious behaviour and attempted to flee from the spot.
The Mahendergarh administration on Thursday imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the district as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order situation over the Udaipur incident where a tailor was brutally murdered. Mahendergarh DC Jai Krishan Abhir said Section 144 was imposed in the district in view of ensuring peace and stability as the district shares border with Rajasthan where a brutal murder took place.

Expecting a heavy footfall, the government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board have made extensive arrangements for the yatra. Speaker of Haryana Vidhan Sabha and Panchkula MLA Gian Chand Gupta has opposed the resolution passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Thursday slamming the Centre's move to grant central status to Panjab University. The resolution said any decision to change PU's character would not be acceptable to the people of Punjab and, therefore, any proposal in this regard should be dropped with immediate effect.
