Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Badal on Sunday termed the budget a “bundle of lies”, accusing the Punjab government of pushing the state into a deeper debt crisis with 52,000 crore as an additional debt. Addressing a political rally in Bathinda’s Maur town, he said the budget announcement was a “misleading” exercise. “The Bhagwant Mann-led government is relying on loans and the sale of government assets to fund its promise of providing 1,000 per month to women. The monetary provision is not even what the AAP leadership announced as a pre-poll promise,” he said, adding that the AAP government has “failed” on all fronts.

Meanwhile, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal termed the Budget a “betrayal” for the people of Punjab. “If the government really wanted to provide the monthly assistance to women, it would have implemented the scheme for all five years of its tenure. The government is trying to mislead the women electorate,” she said.
