Punjab transport minister Amarinder Singh Raja Warring says the state government will soon buy new buses with the profit and provide employment to thousands of unemployed youths of the state

Punjab transport minister Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Thursday said that following the crackdown on tax evaders and illegal bus operators, the daily income of PRTC and Punjab Roadways had risen to 1.5 crore, which was enough to generate 12,000 jobs in the transport department.

He was speaking at the “Khulli Charcha Warring De Naal” programme, organised by senior Youth Congress leader Kamil Boparai.

He said, “The 2012 order by the Punjab and Haryana high court against the illegal extension of bus permits was not implemented properly. We have implemented it in toto and cancelled 680 such permits.”

He stressed that if the illegal extension of permits had been revoked in 2012 itself, the state exchequer would have earned 1,380 crore, which could have been spent on public welfare.

Alleging a 6,600 crore scam in the transport department for the past 14.5 years, Warring said a special investigation team will be formed to thoroughly investigate it and anyone found guilty, will not be spared.

Taking a jibe at former CM Capt Amarinder Singh and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, Warring alleged that both were hand in glove and sold the interests of the state to the BJP.
