The Dindoshi sessions court has stayed the release of a short film starring Pratyusha Banerjee, who had allegedly committed suicide last year on April 1, for a day until further decision. The decision came after Banerjee’s boyfriend, Rahul Raj Singh, an actor-producer, filed a defamation suit against Kamya Punjabi and producer Neerusha Nikhat, including Google and YouTube.

Punjabi had released a teaser for the short film titled ‘Hum Kuch Keh Naa Sakey’ and the entire short film was scheduled to be released on April 1, as a tribute to the actor.

Banerjee was in a live-in relationship with Rahul. Filing a defamation suit for Rs1 crore, Singh stated, “to gain cheap publicity and some monetary gain out of it, Punjabi has made false and baseless allegations.”

Singh stated that he has seen the (promo) of the short film in which Banerjee is an actor and she takes a name of a character as ‘Rahul’. He further stated that the video shows the ill-treatment of Banerjee at the hands of ‘Rahul’ and how she goes into depression. In his suit, Singh argues that “it is prejudicing the mind of society.”

“The court has granted interim relief. The court has stayed the release of the movie till further hearing. The matter is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday),” said Shreyans Mithare, advocate for Rahul Raj Singh.
