Goregaon suicide: Husband of victim arrested from Guwahati
Megha.sood@htlive.com Mumbai: The Bangur Nagar police on Tuesday arrested a 28-year-old man from Guwahati, days after his wife died by suicide jumping from the sixth floor of their building in Goregaon West. According to the police, Krishika worked as a beautician in Malad and had been staying, along with her husband Shijan, in a rented apartment in Gulraj Tower in Lakshmi Nagar. Shijan had then fled to Guwahati.

Millets added to menu in Vande Bharat trains
Starting Friday, passengers travelling in the two Vande Bharat trains ? from CSMT to Shirdi and Solapur - can pick from a host of millets-enriched regional delicacies. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has, for the first time, decided to introduce millets like jowar and bajra in the menu. The items identified for breakfast would include sabudana groundnut khichadi, jowar bhakhri and besan pola along with sorghum or shengdana chiwda or bhadang.

State’s rural women flock to Mumbai for female firefighter jobs
Mumbai: Last week, Maya Uttam Kakkade travelled with her one-year-old child from Jalna and waited all night outside the Gopinath Munde ground at Dahisar West for her turn at the Mumbai fire brigade recruitment drive for women. Kakkade is among the 5,000 women who have showed up for the MFB's recruitment drive since last Saturday. Around 2,500 of these were from Marathwada's eight districts while a miniscule two percent were from Mumbai.

Belapur to Gateway water service flagged off
The water taxi service 'Nayan XI' from Belapur to Gateway of India (GOI) was inaugurated by minister Dadaji Bhuse in the presence of Belapur MLA Manda Mhatre. The services have been launched by MyBoatRide.com in partnership with Nayantara Shipping. Bhuse said fares had been kept low at ?250 and ?350. A water taxi service launched in February from Belapur to Bhau Cha Dhakka was soon closed down.

Panipat DSP’s reader held with ₹1 lakh bribe
A team of the state vigilance bureau's Karnal unit on Tuesday arrested an ASI rank cop, posted as the reader of deputy superintendent of police (DSP, traffic) in Panipat for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.1 lakh in lieu of removing rape section in a dowry case. The accused has been identified as ASI Sushil Kumar, while his purported accomplice, head constable Partiba, the investigating office in the case, remains absconding.

Centre clears diversion of 18 acres of SGNP forest for development works
Mumbai: The National Board for Wildlife has given its nod for diversion of around 18 acres of forest land in Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), in Thane and Palghar districts, for development works. These include the construction of a service road connecting Kolshet to Bhayandarpada, being constructed by the Thane Municipal Corporation as part of the road widening of Ghodbunder Road, which will lead to the diversion of 1.5 acres of forest land.

JEE Main January edition: Three from Chandigarh score over 99
At least three students from Chandigarh have scored over 99 in JEE-Main's January edition, whose results were announced by the National Testing Agency on Tuesday. While Raghav Goyal and Moulik Jindal, both students of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula, got a 99.9973 NTA?score, Gunveen Gill of Sri Guru Harkrishan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 38, Chandigarh, got 99.98. Twenty candidates from across the country scored perfect 100 in the engineering entrance exam.

HC asks MHADA if MahaRERA can help in choosing developers for stalled cessed buildings
Mumbai: The Bombay high court recently sought to know from the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority whether the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) could be roped in to identify and appoint private developers for completing stalled redevelopment of cessed buildings due to default on the part of the developers. In light of many such projects languishing, the HC had directed the MHADA and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to respond.

Three officials of the Haryana transport commissioner's office have been arrested for embezzlement of Rs 45,31,621, while issuing vehicle registration certificates (RCs), though authorities suspect the trio has misappropriated government funds to the tune of several crores. The case was registered on the complaint of Haryana chief minister's flying squad, DSP, Purnima Singh.
