Robbers shoot at four during chain-snatching attempt in Patna
A group of criminals indiscriminately shot at and injured four persons including a girl during a chain-snatching attempt near Urja Auditorium gate no-2 under Shastrinagar police station in Bihar's Capital, Patna on Wednesday night, police said. Police said the incident occurred around midnight when three criminals intercepted a woman and tried to snatch a gold chain from her. However, four persons came for her safety and the criminals opened fire at them.

Maoist posters against MP, ex-MLA found in Bihar’s Aurangabad
A few purported handwritten Maoist posters threatening member of Parliament Sushil Singh and former Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MLA Ranvijay Singh were allegedly found in Aurangabad district in Bihar on Wednesday, police said. Station house officer of Goh police station, Kamlesh Paswan told HT that police did not find any posters when they visited the places but added that they are monitoring the situation and have begun an investigation.

Himachal: Four children of migrant labourers charred to death in Una district
Four children of migrant labourers were charred to death after a fire broke out in two shanties at Bane-Di-Hatti village in Gagret town of Una district late on Wednesday. Three brothers and sisters are among the victims. Ramesh Dass lost his daughter Neetu, 14, and two sons, Golu Kumar, 7, Shivam Kumar, 6, and their relative Kalidas's son Sonu Kumar, 17, in the blaze. All four children were sleeping in one of the two shanties.

Lawyer sent to jail for ‘making wild allegations against judicial system’
The High Court of Karnataka has sentenced an advocate to prison for one week for ?making wild allegations against the judicial system and the Judicial Officers in particular?. The Division Bench of Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale and Justice Ashok S Kinagi recently ordered that advocate K S Anil be taken into custody and again presented before it on February 10. The original criminal contempt case against Anil was filed in 2019.

Two killed, 12 injured after car rams into wedding procession in UP: Police
In a tragic incident, two cousins of a groom were killed while 12 others got injured after a speeding car rammed into a wedding party in Uttar Pradesh's Bafar village on Wednesday night, police said. The wedding was organised in the village's banquet hall on Meerut-Bagpat road. During the procession, the groom's family were dancing outside the hall when the speeding car rammed into it.

Punjab: Slain gangster Vicky Gounder’s father found dead on rail track in Muktsar
The father of slain gangster Harjinder Singh, 66, Mehal Singh Bhullar, alias Vicky Gounder, was found dead on the rail track near Malout in Muktsar district, police said on Thursday. Government Railway Police sources said Bhullar had been missing from his house at Sarawan Bodla village in Muktsar since Monday. GRP authorities alerted the nearby police stations for identification. Police sources said prima facie it is suspected to be a case of suicide.

'People won't value caste talks…': CM Bommai on HDK's 'Brahmin' remark

Server room of private bank catches fire in Delhi; no injuries: Officials
A fire broke out on Thursday morning in a four-storey building in Greater Kalash locality of south Delhi, officials said. A senior Delhi Fire Services official said they received a call regarding the blaze at 6:05am in M-Block, Greater Kailash Part-2, in the server room of a private bank. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, the officer added.

Speeding bus mows down 4 factory workers in Dadri
A speeding Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus mowed down four factory workers on their way to work in Dadri near Noida late on Wednesday, a police officer said. Additional deputy police commissioner (central Noida) Vishal Pandey said three other workers were previously injured and that the incident was reported around 11.30pm. Pandey identified those killed as Sankeshwar Kumar, 25, Mohari Kumar, 22, Satish Shankar, 25, and Azad, 34.

Patna HC rejects anticipatory bail plea of suspended DSP accused in minor’s rape
The Patna high court rejected the anticipatory bail petition of suspended senior DSP Kamlakant Prasad in connection with a rape case of a minor Dalit girl. The bench of justice Rajiv Rai rejected the bail plea after hearing both sides for over an hour. ?This court thus does not find any merit in the anticipatory bail application filed by the Kamlakant herein which is accordingly rejected,? read the order.

Woman police constable allegedly shot dead in Bihar’s Katihar district
A woman police constable was gunned down while she was returning home in Katihar district of Bihar on Wednesday, officials said. The incident took place around 8pm on NH 81 near Bhatwara panchayat Bhawan near Katihar. The woman was a resident of Munger district. Police recovered two empty cartridges including a live one and mobile phone from the spot. A special task force team has also been sent to Katihar, the official added.

Karnataka: 49-year-old man gets lifer for raping, impregnating stepdaughter
The district additional and sessions court dealing with POCSO cases in Udupi has sentenced a 49-year-old man to life imprisonment in a case related to sexually harassing Nayak's minor stepdaughter. The convict, who was found guilty in the sexual harassment case, is Ganesh Nayak. Delhi's air quality remained in the moderate category on Thursday morning as partly overcast weather was expected while the maximum temperature was expected to be around 28C. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the hourly Air Quality Index was 200 at 7am. On Wednesday, the average 24-hour AQI was 144 in the moderate category. The air quality was likely to worsen to the poor category on Friday and Saturday.
