The average 24-hour AQI was 87 on Thursday in the satisfactory category. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
A fire broke out on Thursday morning in a four-storey building in Greater Kalash locality of south Delhi, officials said. A senior Delhi Fire Services official said they received a call regarding the blaze at 6:05am in M-Block, Greater Kailash Part-2, in the server room of a private bank. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, the officer added.
A speeding Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus mowed down four factory workers on their way to work in Dadri near Noida late on Wednesday, a police officer said. Additional deputy police commissioner (central Noida) Vishal Pandey said three other workers were previously injured and that the incident was reported around 11.30pm. Pandey identified those killed as Sankeshwar Kumar, 25, Mohari Kumar, 22, Satish Shankar, 25, and Azad, 34.
The Patna high court rejected the anticipatory bail petition of suspended senior DSP Kamlakant Prasad in connection with a rape case of a minor Dalit girl. The bench of justice Rajiv Rai rejected the bail plea after hearing both sides for over an hour. ?This court thus does not find any merit in the anticipatory bail application filed by the Kamlakant herein which is accordingly rejected,? read the order.
A woman police constable was gunned down while she was returning home in Katihar district of Bihar on Wednesday, officials said. The incident took place around 8pm on NH 81 near Bhatwara panchayat Bhawan near Katihar. The woman was a resident of Munger district. Police recovered two empty cartridges including a live one and mobile phone from the spot. A special task force team has also been sent to Katihar, the official added.
The district additional and sessions court dealing with POCSO cases in Udupi has sentenced a 49-year-old man to life imprisonment in a case related to sexually harassing Nayak's minor stepdaughter. The convict, who was found guilty in the sexual harassment case, is Ganesh Nayak. The air quality was likely to worsen to the poor category on Friday and Saturday.

The Punjab and Haryana high court has restrained the Haryana government from allowing construction in the Morni block of Panchkula until and unless the same has been duly approved and sanctioned by the competent authority. It says in 1987, the government had appointed the then sub-divisional officer (civil), Kalka, as settlement officer, but settlement has not been completed till date in spite of spending of Rs 1.64 crore on salary and allowances.
As many as 33 police personnel were injured and dozens of police vehicles were damaged after armed protesters seeking the release of Sikh prisoners went on a rampage, smashing vehicles and cornering cops, near the Chandigarh-Mohali border on the Sector 52/53 dividing road on Wednesday. The protesters, under the banner of Kaumi Insaaf Morcha, had gathered near the border around 1 pm to march towards Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann's residence in Chandigarh.
Working on promoting eco-friendly transportation in Chandigarh, the UT administration has decided not to register non-electric two-wheelers between February 10 and March 31, 2023. In the first year of policy, incentives are being offered for up to 42,000 vehicles of different categories, including 25,000 e-cycles, 1,000 e-bikes and 3,000 cars. Through this, the administration is looking to reduce the number of fuel-run four-wheelers by 10% and two-wheelers by 35%, compared to the preceding year.
The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority will be offering 77 properties located in different parts of Mohali in its upcoming e-auction. Punjab Housing and Urban Development minister Aman Arora said the e-auction will commence at 9 am on February 17 and conclude at 1 pm on March 6. The total reserve price of all properties offered in the e-auction stands at around ?2,100 crore, an official said.
Kharar police on Tuesday arrested a 44-year-old teacher for molesting a 10-year-old student at a government school in Gharuan. The accused was identified as a resident of Kharar, Harpreet Singh. His arrest came on the complaint of the child's mother. ?After verifying the complaint, we booked the accused and arrested him. He was produced before a Mohali court on Wednesday and sent him to judicial custody in Rupnagar jail,? shared a cop.
