Panipat DSP’s reader held with ₹1 lakh bribe
A team of the state vigilance bureau's Karnal unit on Tuesday arrested an ASI rank cop, posted as the reader of deputy superintendent of police (DSP, traffic) in Panipat for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.1 lakh in lieu of removing rape section in a dowry case. The accused has been identified as ASI Sushil Kumar, while his purported accomplice, head constable Partiba, the investigating office in the case, remains absconding.

Centre clears diversion of 18 acres of SGNP forest for development works
Mumbai: The National Board for Wildlife has given its nod for diversion of around 18 acres of forest land in Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), in Thane and Palghar districts, for development works. These include the construction of a service road connecting Kolshet to Bhayandarpada, being constructed by the Thane Municipal Corporation as part of the road widening of Ghodbunder Road, which will lead to the diversion of 1.5 acres of forest land.

Notice to Chandigarh on plea seeking to expedite HC development plan
The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday sought response from the Chandigarh administration among others on a plea seeking to expedite the ?holistic development plan? of the high court. ?From the security and emergency perspective, even a small incident can lead to a rampage, resulting in unimagined loss. The present situation in the parking lot is such that neither an ambulance nor a fire brigade can reach a desired place,? the plea said.

JEE Main January edition: Three from Chandigarh score over 99
At least three students from Chandigarh have scored over 99 in JEE-Main's January edition, whose results were announced by the National Testing Agency on Tuesday. While Raghav Goyal and Moulik Jindal, both students of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula, got a 99.9973 NTA?score, Gunveen Gill of Sri Guru Harkrishan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 38, Chandigarh, got 99.98. Twenty candidates from across the country scored perfect 100 in the engineering entrance exam.

HC asks MHADA if MahaRERA can help in choosing developers for stalled cessed buildings
Mumbai: The Bombay high court recently sought to know from the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority whether the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) could be roped in to identify and appoint private developers for completing stalled redevelopment of cessed buildings due to default on the part of the developers. In light of many such projects languishing, the HC had directed the MHADA and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to respond.

VIP number registration: 3 Haryana transport officials held for siphoning off ₹45 lakh
Three officials of the Haryana transport commissioner's office have been arrested for embezzlement of Rs 45,31,621, while issuing vehicle registration certificates (RCs), though authorities suspect the trio has misappropriated government funds to the tune of several crores. The case was registered on the complaint of Haryana chief minister's flying squad, DSP, Purnima Singh. The amount of the siphoned of money was pegged at Rs 45,31,621, though authorities maintain, it could be higher.

Six held for robbing banker of ₹2 lakh
Six persons have been arrested for allegedly robbing a bank manager of ?1.97 lakh and a mobile phone on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in the early hours of January 26. An unidentified car overtook him at Bhatan tunnel and made him stop. Two persons got down from the vehicle and slapped the complainant while accusing him of dashing their car, and demanded ?10,000 as damages. The banker then checked his dashboard and found the cash missing.

Ashok Kumar Singh elected president of HCBA
Ashok Kumar Singh and Nitin Sharma were elected as president and secretary of Allahabad High Court Bar Association respectively on Tuesday. While Ashok Kumar Singh defeated his nearest rival Anil Tiwari by a margin of 312 votes, Nitin Sharma defeated Vikrant Pandey by 357 votes. The polling to elect 28 office bearers of HCBA had taken place on January 30. Thereafter, the counting for the two coveted posts - president and secretary commenced immediately thereafter.

Road rage: Man dies after collapsing during scuffle, one arrested
A 55-year-old man died after collapsing suddenly during a scuffle that broke out in a road rage incident at Trunk Market in Sadar Bazaar on Monday night, police said Tuesday. The auto driver, with whom the deceased, Moolchand Verma got into a scuffle, has been arrested, said police. Police said Verma stopped auto-rickshaw driver Arvind Kumar (30) and scolded him by banging on the windshield and then moved ahead. Investigators said that the incident was captured by CCTV cameras too.

KGMU moves up from ‘A’, gets A+ NAAC rating
