The Goa Police crime branch have arrested a convict, who was on the run for the last 15 years after a prison break incident, from Digha in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district. Then a resident of Panaji, Jackson Dadel, was convicted in 2007 for the murder of Godwin D'Silva in 2005, who he along with one Rudolph Gomes stabbed to death. He broke out of prison in 2007 and has been absconding since.

In a freak incident, a man standing on a platform of West Bengal's Kharagpur railway station was electrocuted after a high-tension live wire fell on him. A video of the incident, captured on the CCTV, was doing rounds on social media platforms. The incident happened on Wednesday. A few moments later, people were seen gathering around him. The incident threw light on the safety hazards at railway stations in India.
A Saket Court extended the judicial custody of Aaftab Amin Poonawala for 14 days said officials on Friday. Aaftab is the chief accused in the Shraddha Walkar murder case. Aaftab Amin Poonawalla, the accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walker, currently lodged in Tihar Jail, was produced before the Saket court here through video conferencing, said the Prison Officials.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said the State government would set up an Innovation Experience Exhibition Museum in Bengaluru chronicling the State's development, journey of innovation, achievers who are responsible for it and their achievements. Speaking after inaugurating the Future Design Summit of the Bengaluru Design District-22 organised by Bengaluru Designers Community here, the Chief Minister said the proposed museum would be of international standard and give all information on innovations.
Karnataka police have taken a woman into custody for allegedly setting Jyoti's two children on fire, killing one and severely injuring the other. The woman, identified as Jyoti from Mulabagilu, was motivated by a domestic dispute, news agency ANI reported. After setting her daughters on fire she reportedly tried to kill herself but was stopped by locals. Her six-year-old daughter died and the second daughter is in critical condition.
Five, including two children, were killed and around 50 people injured after a cooking gas cylinder exploded in a house in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan where guests had gathered for a wedding on Thursday. The house collapsed due to the impact of the blast. Jodhpur divisional commissioner Kailash Chand Meena on Friday said the incident was reported from Bhungra village in Shergarh tehsil, 110 km from Jodhpur.
Four students in Karnataka's Mangaluru have been suspended for wearing burqas while dancing to a Bollywood song at a college event. The college has said the students had 'barged on the stage during the informal' part of the event and that they had violated 'strict guidelines'. Doctors in Patna will now have to take rounds of patients twice a day for half an hour each, a new circular issued by the Bihar's health department said. The time of evening round during winters (November to February), will be from 4:30pm to 5pm. Pregnant women will get the full dose of iron folic acid and calcium. The national green tribunal (NGT), eastern zone bench on Thursday ordered a blanket ban on all kind of illegal constructions around three ponds in Mithila, situated in Darbhanga city, a court source revealed. The next date of hearing is January 10. The presiding judge maintained that in the absence of an alternate plan, the railways and municipal authorities be allowed to submit counter affidavits within fixed time to present remedial measures.
Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday targeted the BJP saying that just the way big-ticket projects were shifted from Maharashtra to Gujarat ahead of the Assembly polls there, villages from the state could be merged into Karnataka, where elections are due next year. Chitkara University announced its collaboration with NEC Corporation India, a wholly owned subsidiary of NEC Corporation, for a comprehensive academic programme for aspiring students to facilitate them with hands-on training and research facilities in the area of artificial intelligence and machine learning (Al/ML), and high-performance computing (HPC). A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between NEC Corporation India and Chitkara University.
Tightening the noose around drunk drivers, the Mohali traffic police challaned 14 offenders and impounded eight vehicles during special nakas on Wednesday. Jagjit Singh Jallah, superintendent of police (SP, traffic), Mohali, said, ?The special drive was conducted on Wednesday night. We issued around 100 challans for various traffic violations, including 14 for drunk driving. Eight vehicles were also impounded. The drive will continue in the coming days.?
Taking a cue from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, where at the convocation on October 9 the western graduation robes were ditched in favour of traditional Indian attire, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Mohali, has decided to follow the same route at its convocation on January 7. As many as 283 students, including 33 PhD scholars and 250 post-graduates, will be awarded degrees at the ceremony.
