The state legislature’s winter session has been convened from December 5 to 7 to pass the state government’s first supplementary budget for 2022-2023 and carry out legislative business.

All the eight teams will fly to their respective destinations abroad soon thereafter (December 8).

“Yes, UP’s eight teams will begin their tour to 17 countries and aggressively hold road shows there from December 8 to 16. We have worked out policies for different sectors and the state government’s teams will showcase the state as the best investment destination in the world,” infrastructure and industrial development commissioner Arvind Kumar said.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has set the goal of making the state a trillion dollar economy in the next five years. The UPGIS-2023, with an objective of attracting investment of 10 lakh crore, is being considered an important milestone. The Yogi government had organised the Uttar Pradesh Investors Summit in February 2018.

The state government claims to have attracted 4.68 crore investment at the 2018 summit and proposals of investment worth 3 lakh crore were implemented in the past five year period in the state.

The 17 countries on the Yogi government’s tour list include Canada, USA, UK, South Korea, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Japan and the United Arab Emirates. The road shows will be held in about 19-20 cities.

Uttar Pradesh’s task is going to become more challenging as a number of states propose to hold similar events to attract investment early next year. Madhya Pradesh’s Global Investors Summit is scheduled to be organised in January 2023.

Punjab and Andhra Pradesh will host summits to attract investors in February 2023 and March 2023 respectively.

Karnataka and Rajasthan have already organised similar events in recent weeks while some others have scheduled the same in the coming days.

“Chief minister Yogi Adityanath is our brand ambassador. Uttar Pradesh is a land of unlimited potential and opportunities. We have worked out policies of different sectors and an aggressive strategy is being adopted to hold road shows taking the message about Uttar Pradesh’s transformation under Yogi’s leadership across the globe,” said Arvind Kumar.

Minister for finance Suresh Khanna will now lead the delegation to hold road shows in the USA. Khanna’s team will visit Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.

Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly speaker Satish Mahana, who served as minister for industry during Yogi’s first term as chief minister, will lead a delegation to Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver in Canada.

Animal husbandry minister Dharampal Singh will accompany Mahana’s team.

Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will undertake a tour to hold road shows in France and the Netherlands while deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak will be in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. Minister for industry Nand Gopal Nandi will lead another delegation to Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.

Minister for MSME Rakesh Sachan will hold a road show in Dubai, UAE.

“The chief minister’s programme to hold road shows has not been finalised at this stage because of his political and official engagements. Yogi was scheduled to visit the USA earlier.

This destination will now be covered by Khanna’s team,” a senior officer said.
