MCD polls: BJP releases 160 names in first list, SAD gets five wards

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday released its first list of 160 candidates for the Delhi municipal elections that will be held on April 23. The party has given five wards to its ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and one seat to Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). However, the SAD and the LJP candidates will contest on BJP’s symbol only.
As per the list, the Paharganj ward has been allocated to LJP while Punjabi and Sikh dominated areas Pratap Nagar, GTB Nagar, Rajinder Nagar, Tilak Nagar, and Kalkaji have been given to SAD.
The state unit’s vice president Shikha Rai will contest from Greater Kailash while Kamaljeet Sehrawat, also the party’s vice president, has been nominated from Dwarka B ward. Both fall under South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
The party has named two Muslim candidates from Zakir Nagar and Chauhan Bangar ward. Kunwar Rafi will contest from Zakir Nagar while Sartaaj Ahmed has been nominated from Chauhan Bangar, which comes under East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
So far, the party has named 48 candidates in South Delhi Municipal Corporation, 58 in East Delhi Municipal Corporation and 67 in North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
