Mumbai: The MHB Colony police on Monday found a four-day-old abandoned baby girl on the footpath near Borivali West. The police are now trying to trace the mother of the girl. This is the second case of new born girl abandonment in Borivali West in the past two months.
According to the police officers, they were on patrolling duty on Monday evening and had reached the Akashwani junction at Gorai in Borivali West when they heard the cries of the baby on the footpath.
The constable who noticed the baby immediately got off his two-wheeler and picked up the girl child, who was wrapped in a thin blanket.
The constable then informed the control room which relayed the message to the MHB Colony police station. The police station dispatched the Nirbhaya team, including woman police constable Kamal Maule, to the spot. The team then took custody of the new-born dressed in a pink T-shirt and rushed her Shatabdi Hospital.
“The baby girl was cold but did not have any injury marks on her body. We admitted the girl to the hospital where she was reported to be stable,” said a police officer from MHB police station.
The police have registered a case of under section 317 of the Indian Penal Code against unknown person/s for allegedly abandoning the baby girl. “We are scanning the CCTV footages of the locality and also taking help of traffic cameras to find out who had abandoned the new born there,” said the officer.
On September 20, an abandoned new-born girl was found near a dustbin in Borivli West. The MHB Colony police officers had rescued the girl, but have not yet been able to trace the parents of the girl child.
