The World Tribal Day is observed on August 9. However, for the tribals of Shahapur, the day was nothing more than a sham. The school children of three tribal hamlets of Shahapur in Thane district cannot attend school during monsoon as the only way to reach it is by crossing a river. Over 25 children from Bhitarwadi and Kothewadi hamlets of Shahapur lose connectivity to the other villages and the main road during the monsoon.

Delhi court extends Aaftab Poonawala’s judicial custody by 14 days

A Delhi court on Friday extended by 14 days the judicial custody of 24-year-old Aaftab Poonawala who is accused of killing Poonawala's girlfriend Shraddha Walkar and dismembering her body, a senior police officer said. On November 28, a group of men from a fringe right-wing Hindu outfit, some wielding swords, tried to attack Poonawala outside the Forensic Science Laboratory offices in Rohini where he was taken for a polygraph test.

Goa Police arrests convict, absconding for 15 years, from West Bengal’s Digha

The Goa Police crime branch have arrested a convict, who was on the run for the last 15 years after a prison break incident, from Digha in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district. Then a resident of Panaji, Jackson Dadel, was convicted in 2007 for the murder of Godwin D'Silva in 2005, who he along with one Rudolph Gomes stabbed to death. He broke out of prison in 2007 and has been absconding since.

In a freak incident, a man standing on a platform of West Bengal's Kharagpur railway station was electrocuted after a high-tension live wire fell on him. A video of the incident, captured on the CCTV, was doing rounds on social media platforms. The incident happened on Wednesday. A few moments later, people were seen gathering around him. The incident threw light on the safety hazards at railway stations in India.

Shraddha murder case: Delhi court extends Aaftab Poonawala's custody for 14 days

A Saket Court extended the judicial custody of Aaftab Amin Poonawala for 14 days said officials on Friday. Aaftab is the chief accused in the Shraddha Walkar murder case. Aaftab Amin Poonawalla, the accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walker, currently lodged in Tihar Jail, was produced before the Saket court here through video conferencing, said the Prison Officials.

Speaking after inaugurating the Future Design Summit of the Bengaluru Design District-22 organised by Bengaluru Designers Community here, the Chief Minister said the proposed museum would be of international standard and give all information on innovations.

Karnataka: Woman taken into custody for setting daughters ablaze; one dead

Karnataka police have taken a woman into custody for allegedly setting Jyoti's two children on fire, killing one and severely injuring the other. The woman, identified as Jyoti from Mulabagilu, was motivated by a domestic dispute, news agency ANI reported. After setting her daughters on fire she reportedly tried to kill herself but was stopped by locals. Her six-year-old daughter died and the second daughter is in critical condition.

Rajasthan: Five killed, 50 injured in cooking gas cylinder blast in Jodhpur

Five, including two children, were killed and around 50 people injured after a cooking gas cylinder exploded in a house in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan where guests had gathered for a wedding on Thursday. The house collapsed due to the impact of the blast. Jodhpur divisional commissioner Kailash Chand Meena on Friday said the incident was reported from Bhungra village in Shergarh tehsil, 110 km from Jodhpur.

Govt doctors to now check on patients admitted in hospitals twice a day in Bihar

Doctors in Patna will now have to take rounds of patients twice a day for half an hour each, a new circular issued by the Bihar's health department said. The time of evening round during winters (November to February), will be from 4:30pm to 5pm. Pregnant women will get the full dose of iron folic acid and calcium. All emergency services, including the blood bank, will function 24x7.

The national green tribunal (NGT), eastern zone bench on Thursday ordered a blanket ban on all kind of illegal constructions around three ponds in Mithila, situated in Darbhanga city, a court source revealed. The next date of hearing is January 10. The presiding judge maintained that in the absence of an alternate plan, the railways and municipal authorities be allowed to submit counter affidavits within fixed time to present remedial measures.

AQI in Delhi slips to ‘very poor’ category; minimum temperature to be around 8°C

Delhi's air quality worsened to 'very poor' category on Friday morning, as the hourly air quality index at 8 am stood at 308. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department predicted the highest temperature in the national capital to be around 26 degrees Celsius today, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 8 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature on Thursday was 8.3 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature reached 24.8 degrees Celsius.

Mohali police crack the whip on drunk driving; challan 14 in late-night drive

Tightening the noose around drunk drivers, the Mohali traffic police challaned 14 offenders and impounded eight vehicles during special nakas on Wednesday. Jagjit Singh Jallah, superintendent of police (SP, traffic), Mohali, said, ?The special drive was conducted on Wednesday night. We issued around 100 challans for various traffic violations, including 14 for drunk driving. Eight vehicles were also impounded. The drive will continue in the coming days.?
