Ludhiana: 150 players vie for top honours in Inter-District Judo championship

The Inter-District Judo championship for girls in Ludhiana will conclude on November 23 after which the boys’ competition will commence. The winner players were felicitated with medals and certificates

Over 150 players participated in the Inter-District Dchool Judo championship for girls being held at Guru Nanak Stadium here from November 21 to 23. Students from as many as 16 districts— from both government and private schools— are participating in nine judo events.

In the matches held on Tuesday, Samina representing Jalandhar and Arpita of Ludhiana bagged the first and second positions, respectively, in the 36kg weight class, while Ifra from Malerkotla and Jasmine from Patiala obtained the third position.

In the 40kg weight class, Bindu representing Jalandhar and Diksha Bains from Ludhiana clinched the first and second position, while Karamjit Kaur from Patiala and Niharika from Jalandhar obtained the third position.

In the 44kg event, Pushpa Devi from Hoshiarpur and Aanchal from Jalandhar bagged the first and second positions, respectively, while Priti from Ludhiana and Kamalpreet Kaur representing Faridkot obtained the third position.

Gurpreet Kaur from Amritsar and Khushpreet Kaur from Moga emerged victorious in the -70kg event, claiming the first and second positions, respectively. Students representing Hoshiarpur and Sangrur obtained the third position. In the over 70kg game, Amandeep Kaur of Patiala and Meenakshi from Jalandhar clinched the top two positions, respectively, and Simarjit Kaur from Hoshiarpur and Konika Sharma from Mansa obtained the third position.

Coordinator of the event Harmeet Walia said, “Players who will clinch first positions will represent the state at the national level.” He said the district with the highest scores will be awarded the overall champion trophy.

He added that the championship for girls will conclude on November 23 after which the boys’ competition will commence. The winners were felicitated with medals and certificates.
