As soon as the Speaker started the day’s proceedings with the all-important Question Hour, RJD chief whip Lalit Yadav stood up and said the government statement on the Lakhisarai incident should first be made, as it was a serious matter. BJP legislators also stood up in support.
The Speaker tried to calm things down and said parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary was in the Bihar Legislative Council and he would make a statement on his return. “Till then, the Question Hour should be allowed to continue,” he said.
The members, however, were not convinced, leading to adjournment.
The issue was raised on the very first day of the Budget session and the matter was referred to the privilege committee. The issue flared up as it happened in the constituency of the Speaker, who took exception to the arrest of a youth by the police for violating Covid protocol at an orchestra organised on the occasion of Saraswati Puja. The members wanted to know the action taken after Speaker’s objection and alleged misbehaviour of policemen with him.
Later, in the second half, deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad said the matter had been discussed at the privilege committee meeting and report sought from the DGP. “Action will be taken on the basis of the report and the House will be apprised of that,” he added, after which the government reply on the budgetary demand of the department of revenue and land reforms got underway.
