The suspended constables have been identified as Shubham Desai and Abhinav Ladkat.

Police said that on November 11, the Samarth police detained Audumbar Sonawane of Somwar Peth for running matka operations. During questioning, Sonawane disclosed that he was placing bets on behalf of Pravin Chavan. Chavan was later detained and when his mobile phone data was checked, investigators discovered repeated contacts with both suspended constables.

A deeper probe revealed that Desai had made several calls to the accused, raising suspicions about the constable’s connection with Chavan and illegal gambling activities.

According to sources, the constables had previously been warned multiple times to avoid any association with criminal elements or organised crime groups.

Citing irresponsible conduct, dereliction of duty, actions that could damage the reputation of the police force, and behaviour harmful to departmental discipline, DCP Nikhil Pingale ordered their suspension.
