Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: BJP holds UP’s Kaushambi

Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of members to Parliament at 80, will go to polls in all the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election 2019. Votes will be counted on May 23.

Kaushambi parliamentary constituency, spread over Kaushambi and Pratapgarh districts of Uttar Pradesh, came into existence in 2008 as a part of the implementation of the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India.

In the first election held in 2009 after restructuring, Shailendra Kumar of the Samajwadi Party won the seat in the Awadh region of the politically-important state. Vinod Kumar Sonkar of the Bharatiya Janata Party was successful in the next election in 2014.

This year, Shailendra Kumar would be contesting the elections as a candidate of the newly-floated Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) of Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya.

Reserved for members of Scheduled Castes, the Pasi community is considered influential in this constituency and Thakurs also are a sizeable portion.
