Commentary

3:15 AM IST Right then, that’s all from this rain-hit and eventually abandoned 4th T20I. With this result, New Zealand ensure they can’t lose the series, holding a 2-1 lead with just one game to go. A disappointing outcome for the West Indies, who would’ve hoped to bounce back and take the series into a thrilling decider, but their focus now shifts to squaring things up and sharing the honours. The 5th and final T20I will be played at the University Oval in Dunedin on 13th November, Thursday, starting at 12.15 am GMT. As always, you can join us early for all the build-up and pre-match excitement. Until then, take care and goodbye!
3:10 AM IST Well, the unfortunate news is in - the match has been CALLED OFF due to rain. The two captains share handshakes in the middle, but this is far from the ending anyone hoped for. After three thrilling encounters in the series, fans were gearing up for another exciting contest, but sometimes, the weather has the final say. The rain gods have taken this one, with only 6.3 overs of play possible. West Indies were asked to bat first, but Alick Athanaze and Amir Jangoo found it tough to get going, and Athanaze fell to James Neesham shortly after play resumed from the first rain interruption. Unfortunately, the heavens opened up again soon after, and this time, there was no way back.
2:53 AM IST UPDATE - 2.50 am GMT - Well, scratch the last updates as it seems like the rain has arrived again and the resumption has been pushed further. Maybe the final nail in today's game. Who knows? Stay tuned for more updates.
2:47 AM IST UPDATE - 2.45 am GMT - GOOD NEWS! We are all set to resume at 2.50 am GMT! That's just five minutes from now on. Definitely we have lost a huge chunk of overs but we will confirm it in a few minutes...
2:30 AM IST UPDATE - 2.28 am GMT - The live visual shows the rain has completely stopped and the super soppers are in action. An inspection is taking place right now. Hopefully, with no more signs of rain, we could get some cricket after all. Stay tuned. Okay, the news is that there is going to be another inspection in the next 15 minutes. We will keep you posted. Hang around...
1:50 AM IST UPDATE - 1.45 am GMT - Nothing new from the ground. The weather forecast also does not look that promising, but we can always hope for better news. Looking at the time lost, it is likely that even if the game restarts, we will lose some overs. Also, if this game is washed out, West Indies can only level the series. However, we are still far away from that conclusion. Fingers crossed!
1:23 AM IST UPDATE - 1.21 am GMT - Oh..no! The on-field umpires reckon that the rain is heavy enough to call in for the covers again. This is very frustrating for the players and the fans, but Mitchell Santner sees the funny side of it and has a chat with the umpire while walking off. Hopefully, this is also a short delay like the first one. Stick with us for more news.

James Neesham to Alick Athanaze, no run

ballImg130.2kph

OUT! TAKEN! James Neesham strikes in his first over! A break in play may have affected Alick Athanaze's focus, and he has to walk back for 21 off 18. This is a fuller one and on off, angling away, Alick backs away and looks to loft it down the ground, but his bat turns in his hand and he mistimes it. The ball goes high in the air over mid on, where Daryl Mitchell runs backwards, extends his arms, and takes a fine catch tumbling onto the ground. West Indies are 30/1!

1:04 AM IST UPDATE - 1.02 am GMT - Good news, folks! The rain has stopped and we are all set to resume in about 10 minutes at 1.10 am GMT. Stay tuned.
12:44 AM IST UPDATE - 12.38 am GMT - Uh..oh! The rain has picked up pace, and the umpires have asked the players to go off the field. The ground staff are running in and putting on the hessian cloth on the pitch before getting the big cover over it. Hopefully, this is just a passing shower and we get back on soon. Stay tuned for further updates.

12:16 AM IST We are all set to begin! Heavy skies above the Saxton Oval, but the crowd has still come in numbers for the fourth T20I of this series. New Zealand players spread out from the huddle and make their way out to the middle now before taking their respective field positions. Amir Jangoo and Alick Athanaze are the two openers for West Indies. Kyle Jamieson, the hero of the last two games, has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...
12:13 AM IST PITCH REPORT - Frankie McKay is pitchside. She says they are playing on the same pitch and will have the same dimensions as the last game. Shane Bond joins and says it was a great wicket yesterday and even better today. Tells it is a little bit dry and expects more runs. Shares that the Kiwi spinners tried to turn the ball by bowling closer to the good length. Reckons that West Indies have a good batting line-up, but they need a good start. Feels it is a 200-210 wicket.
12:07 AM IST Shai Hope, the captain of West Indies, says that it is a decent wicket, and regardless of batting first or second, they have to do well. Adds that he feels they have good depth, and as long as they get things going at the top, they can post a good total here.
12:05 AM IST Mitchell Santner, the skipper of New Zealand, says they will bowl first as it is overcast and windy and might rain a bit as well. Tells that they have done a lot of good stuff in the series, but they know how good the West Indies are, and they need to be at their best to beat them here.
12:01 AM IST West Indies (Playing XI) - Alick Athanaze, Amir Jangoo, Shai Hope (C/WK), Ackeem Auguste, Sherfane Rutherford, Rovman Powell, Jason Holder, Roston Chase (In place of Akeal Hosein), Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde, Shamar Springer.
11:59 PM IST New Zealand (Playing XI) - Devon Conway (WK), Tim Robinson, Rachin Ravindra, Mark Chapman (In place of Mitchell Hay), Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner (C), Kyle Jamieson, Ish Sodhi, Jacob Duffy.
11:51 PM IST TOSS - The coin lands in favour of Mitchell Santner and New Zealand have elected to BOWL first.
11:48 PM IST Across all three matches the pattern’s clear - the team batting first has won each time. A couple of top order batters deliver explosive innings, giving the bowlers a solid platform. Then the bowlers curb the opposition’s top order, but the chasing side’s lower‑middle order hitters often fight back fiercely, though ultimately fall short. Rovman Powell and Romario Shepherd almost successfully pulled it off the previous two games but the Kiwis somehow managed to win by single-digit margins. Can the hosts produce another thriller and seal the series or West Indies will take it to the final game? Stay tuned to find out. Toss and team sheet next.
11:45 PM IST Hello and welcome everyone to the fourth T20I between New Zealand and West Indies. The home team are currently leading the charts, 2-1. After losing the opening game, New Zealand bounced back impresseively to regain the status and will hope to seal the game today.
11:22 PM IST ....MATCH DAY...
4:32 AM IST Buckle up for another thriller as New Zealand and West Indies lock horns in the 4th T20I - a clash that promises fireworks, tension, and possibly another last-over finish in what’s been a pulsating series so far. With the hosts leading 2-1, they’ll look to seal the deal, while the visitors fight to keep the contest alive. New Zealand will be buoyed by a string of last-over thrillers where the result curled their way. In the first game, Mitchell Santnerr’s valiant all-round show nearly steered them home but fell just short. In the second, Rovman Powell and Romario Shepherd conjured a near-miracle for the Windies, only for Kyle Jamieson to hold his nerve in the final over. Then in the third, Shepherd again loomed large alongside Shamar Springer - this time New Zealand’s bowling held firm under pressure and Jamieson once more delivered in the clutch. For the West Indies, the top order still looks uneasy: only Alick Athanaze has consistently shown form, while senior figures like Brandon King and Shai Hope will be desperate for a spark. With the ball, Jason Holder and Matthew Forde have been excellent, and Springer’s death-bowling in the last game added a fresh threat, but their middle-order batting has lacked bite when it matters most. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s middle-order hasn’t fired as powerfully as hoped, yet they’ll savour Devon Conway’s return to form (a fine fifty in the last game) plus Daryl Mitchell’s dependable batting and Santner’s all-round rhythm. The smart inclusion of Ish Sodhi has paid off (six wickets in the past two contests) and Michael Bracewell bolsters a strong spin trio. With Mark Chapman recovering from illness (his heroics in game two were missed in game three) and Rachin Ravindra yet to make his mark, the hosts will be keen for a fuller contribution from those areas. In the seam department, Jamieson, along with Jacob Duffy have managed the pressure-points well - now with home support behind them they’ll aim to wrap up the series with a game to spare. Stakes are high, momentum tilting New Zealand’s way, but the West Indies refuse to bow out quietly - expect another nail-biter.
