Rohit, who was named as the ODI skipper last week replacing Virat Kohli, was also named as the new vice-captain in Tests with his first assignment in the new role starting with the South Africa series, but a hamstring injury ruled him out of the contest.

He is expected to recover in three to four weeks. India A skipper Priyank Panchal has been named as his replacement in the Test squad that reached the Rainbow Nation on Thursday.

Rohit was earlier named as the T20I skipper after India's forgettable T20 World Cup campaign and led the country to a win at home in the series against New Zealand in November. The veteran cricketer will be available for the ODI series against South Africa which will begin in January.

Fellow veteran cricketer Ravindra Jadeja too is present at the NCA recovering from an injury which he had sustained during the home Test series against New Zealand. He too has been ruled out of the Test series against South Africa.
