SL vs BAN Commentary

12:28 PM IST Day 4 was a gripping contest, but Bangladesh edged ahead with a solid all-round effort. After reducing Sri Lanka’s first-innings deficit to just 10 runs, thanks to Nayeem Hasan’s five-for and a collapse triggered post-Lunch, the visitors batted positively in their second innings. Shadman Islam anchored the innings with a composed 76, sharing a 68-run stand with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who later brought up a fine fifty. Despite losing three wickets, Bangladesh stretched their lead to 187 by stumps, with Mushfiqur Rahim and Shanto looking settled. The game remains finely balanced, but Bangladesh held the upper hand going into the final day.
12:27 PM IST Sri Lanka dominated Day 3 with the bat, led by a superb 187 from Pathum Nissanka, which helped them cut the deficit to just 127 runs. They added 100 in the first session and accelerated further after Lunch, with support from Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews who received a guard of honour in his farewell Test but couldn’t convert his start. Bangladesh had something to cheer late in the day, as Nissanka fell in the final hour, giving them a much-needed breakthrough before stumps.
12:20 PM IST Dhananjaya de Silva, the skipper of Sri Lanka, feels they lost their grip in the first innings as they leaked too many runs. Tells that the bowlers tried their best, but the wicket was too flat, and credits Shanto and Rahim, who batted brilliantly. Admits the spinners had their plans, but the opposition soaked up the pressure really well. On Angelo Mathews, DDS says it is a sad day when a legend like Mathews leaves, but they have to move forward.
12:18 PM IST Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh, is also the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his twin tons in both innings. He says he is happy to contribute to the team. Tells before this series against Zimbabwe, they were underconfident, but the preparations before this series were brilliant. Tells he was thinking of declaring a bit earlier on the last day, but the rain arrived and he had to change his plans.
12:18 PM IST Right then, that is it from this emphatic Test match where both teams tried their best but could not force a result, and this series goes to the final Test. The second Test is scheduled to start on 25th June at 4.30 am GMT, but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
12:17 PM IST Angelo Mathews, the man of the moment says he can't believe the love he received since announcing his retirement. Tells there were lots of ups and downs in this journey. Adds he loves this format, but it's time to give the youngsters some chance. Credits the way Bangladesh played and appreciates Nissanka's wonderful century as well. Feels the win against England in England and whitewashing Australia in Sri Lanka are some of the best memories of his Test career. Credits the staff and players who have played with him, and is overwhelmed by the love shown throughout his journey.
