HEA vs SIX Commentary

11:56 AM IST Sam Curran wins the Player of the Match award. He reckons he got a bit nervous when Smith got out and was thinking if will be able to take them home but was glad to do it. Mentions that he'll leave in the morning and will surely miss them, it's a fantastic franchise, and a brilliant first time here. Shares that he spoke to his brother, Tom Curran, before joining, and he advised that it is one of the best franchise tournaments to be a part of. Admits he hate to come in the middle of the season, but the schedule kind of makes that happen. Hopes, that he can play the full season next time around. Adds Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith are two fantastic players and the chance to bat with Smith is special.
11:54 AM IST So, Perth Scorchers, Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars are the four teams in the Playoffs. Time for the Qualifiers to take place, and it's Perth Scorchers taking on Sydney Sixers from the Perth Stadium. Join us on the 20th of January at 2 pm IST (8.30 am GMT). Join us an hour earlier for the coverage. Till then, cheers!
11:47 AM IST Having just enough runs on the board, Brisbane Heat started with the big wicket of Azam and Josh Philippe but Steve Smith proved to be the difference once again. He wasn't at his fluent best but Smith's innings, along with Curran, steadied the ship. Steve Smith fell in the Power Surge but Curran played an unbelievable knock of an unbeaten 53 off just 27 balls to take his team over the line. Brisbane Heat, on this pitch, were 10-15 runs short but their bowlers showed a really good effort to stretch the game till the end.
11:42 AM IST It was a must win game for Brisbane Heat and they gave a tough fight. Despite a disastrous start, the Brisbane Heat managed to post a competitive 171/9, largely thanks to a late-innings recovery led by Nathan McSweeney and Michael Neser. The Sydney Sixers dominated the early stages after electing to bowl, with Mitchell Starc living up to his reputation, finishing with standout figures of 4/35. The Heat were left reeling at 96/6. However, the momentum shifted during the surge when Neser struck a rapid 35 off 14 balls, allowing McSweeney to anchor the innings and finish unbeaten on 69.
11:40 AM IST So, the final game of the group stage and we have got our final four of the Big Bash League 2025-26. Sydney Sixers join the elite list and become the final team to qualify for the playoffs.
