Commentary
5:58 PM IST Hello and welcome, folks! The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is all set to roar to life, and for good reason! After a brief halt in IPL 2025 due to security concerns, the tournament returns with a bang. It’s match number 58, and fittingly, the same two teams that kickstarted this season will headline the resumption as Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in a high-stakes clash.
5:27 PM IST Alas! The news many feared, though still hoped to avoid, has arrived. The game has officially been CALLED OFF due to rain. A real bummer for everyone involved, especially with all the excitement around the much-anticipated resumption of the competition after the break. The forecast had warned of heavy rain, and unfortunately, it proved accurate. There was a brief moment of hope when the rain paused and the ground staff began mop-up operations, but sadly, the rain returned and never relented.
5:08 PM IST As for the Kolkata Knight Riders, their slim hopes of qualification are now officially over. Coming into this game, the defending champions needed to win both of their remaining matches to stay in contention. But with just one game left and a maximum possible tally of 14 points, KKR have been eliminated from the playoff race.
5:05 PM IST Right then, a wet Saturday has dampened our spirits, but here’s hoping for better fortunes on Sunday, 18th May. It marks the first of the two remaining double-header days in the 2025 Indian Premier League. The first game of the day will see the Rajasthan Royals taking on the Punjab Kings in Jaipur at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). A win for the Kings will bring them closer to the playoffs, while the Royals are already out of contention. This will be followed by the Delhi Capitals squaring off against the Gujarat Titans in Delhi at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). A victory for the Titans will secure their spot in the playoffs, while the Capitals are desperate to get back to winning ways. As always, our build-up for both games will begin well in advance. Until then, take care and see you soon. Cheers!
5:00 PM IST What does this washout mean for both teams? With a point from this abandoned clash, Royal Challengers Bengaluru move to the top of the table with 17 points. A win tonight would have sealed their playoff berth, but now they will have to wait a little longer to get that all-important ‘Q’ next to their name. It was a special occasion, with fans turning up in white jerseys to pay tribute to Virat Kohli following his Test retirement. Despite the rain, they made their presence felt, though unfortunately, they couldn’t witness any action on the field.
4:54 PM IST UPDATE - 10.23 pm IST (4.53 pm GMT) - Live visuals show the match officials walking out and they have their umbrellas in hand, which means it is still raining. A decision on the game could be imminent, so we might hear an official update very soon.
