SIX vs STR Commentary

11:57 AM IST After being asked to bat first, the Sydney Sixers lost both openers inside the Powerplay, with the pair failing to make much of an impact for the second game in a row. Josh Philippe looked in good touch and forged a partnership with Moises Henriques, but just as they were laying a foundation, a double strike from Lloyd Pope sparked a turnaround. Jack Edwards kept the hosts afloat, but his departure meant the Sixers couldn’t get the desired finish and had to settle for 159. Apart from Pope, Luke Wood and Jamie Overton also made their presence felt with the ball.
11:54 AM IST Two defeats in a row for the Sydney Sixers at the start of the season, and they will next face their cross-town rivals, the Sydney Thunder, on Saturday, 20th December. As for the Adelaide Strikers, they return home for their next fixture on Tuesday, 23rd December, when they take on the Melbourne Stars. The action continues in the 2025/26 Big Bash League on Thursday, 18th December, where the Melbourne Stars will go up against the Hobart Hurricanes at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The first ball will be bowled at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT), but as always, you can join us earlier for all the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
11:50 AM IST Jamie Overton is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his fine all-round display. He says that these are the games you want to get over the line in and he is happy to come here and get the win in the first game of the season. Adds that they were happy at the innings interval and knew if they got off to a good start, they would be in the game. Further adds that he is ecstatic to be back and can't wait to play in front of the Adelaide fans.
11:50 AM IST Time for the presentation ceremony...
11:49 AM IST The mandatory Powerplay for the Strikers was a tale of two halves. They got off the blocks quickly before being pegged back by the loss of both openers. With Chris Lynn and Matthew Short back in the hut, the chase rested on the shoulders of the middle order. Liam Scott held the chase together, and every time the Sixers created an opening, the Strikers responded by stitching together another stand to shut that door. Scott brought up a fifty before departing, which briefly lifted Sydney’s spirits. However, Jamie Overton found an able ally in Luke Wood to take the Strikers closer. Although Overton perished with the finish line in sight to a shot that could have been avoided, it ultimately did not cost them the game.
11:46 AM IST Not the most convincing chase you will see, but one that got the job done on the night for the Adelaide Strikers. For the second night in a row, the story has been the same, with the chasing side doing just enough to get over the line. It marks the end of a streak for the Strikers, who have beaten the Sixers at the SCG for the first time in eight years. As for the Sydney Sixers, they hung in there, but 159 was always going to be a challenging total to defend.
