SL-W vs IND-W Commentary
12:05 PM IST Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where India Women brushed aside Sri Lanka Women. Next up in this Tri-Series will be a clash between India Women and South Africa Women on 29th April, Tuesday. That will begin at 10 am IST (4.30 am GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
12:03 PM IST Harmanpreet Kaur, the victorious skipper of India Women says the conditions played a big role but strangely, the sun came out and the bowlers did their job by executing the plans. Tells it was a collective bowling performance. On Pratika Rawal, she has been brilliant in the last 2-3 series, says it is good to see her best helping the team.
12:01 PM IST Pratika Rawal is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her fine half-century. She says that she just tried to play according to the merit of the ball and is lucky to have a partner like Smriti Mandhana which makes her job easy. Adds that she looks to put balls in the gaps and take those ones and twos that keeps the runs flowing. Mentions that it was a great job by the bowlers to restrict the opposition to such a low score. Says that in the second innings, there was no spin or swing and it was tough for the bowlers, so batting did become a bit easier.
12:00 PM IST Chamari Athapaththu, the captain of Sri Lanka Women starts by congratulating India for the win. Tells that they didn't bat well, they didn't play positive cricket and as a batting unit, they need to execute some plans. Reckons they can't use the pitch as an excuse and feels 200 could have been a par score. Mentions that bowling at the stumps is very important on this kind of pitch.
11:55 AM IST Chasing a modest target, the Indian openers came out all guns blazing, with Smriti Mandhana leading the charge. The duo stitched together a brisk partnership of over 50 runs before the left-hander fell for a fluent 43. But the momentum remained firmly with India, as Pratika Rawal kept the scoreboard ticking alongside Harleen Deol. The pair rotated the strike smartly and found boundaries at regular intervals, leaving the hosts with no room to mount a comeback. The pair put together an unbeaten 95-run stand, with Rawal continuing her excellent form in this format, notching up yet another fifty, while Deol stayed not out on 48 as they got over the line with over 9 overs to spare.
